CGST, SGST and IGST
In the intra-state calculation, total GST is divided into CGST and SGST. In the inter-state calculation, the same total is shown as IGST. Select one tax type for the calculation; do not add all three components together.

Amount including GST = amount before GST + GST - Remove / Extract GST
- Amount before GST = amount including GST × 100 ÷ (100 + rate)

- GST amount = amount before GST × rate ÷ 100
Amount including GST = amount before GST + GST amount - Components
- Intra-state: CGST = GST ÷ 2; SGST = GST ÷ 2
Inter-state: IGST = GST
Worked example
At ₹1,000 and an illustrative rate of 5%, Add GST shows ₹50 GST and ₹1,050 including GST. Remove / Extract GST from ₹1,000 shows ₹952.38 before GST and ₹47.62 GST included. Find GST Amount on ₹1,000 shows ₹50 GST and ₹1,050 including GST.
For an intra-state calculation at 18%, ₹180 GST is shown as ₹90 CGST and ₹90 SGST. For an inter-state calculation, the same ₹180 is shown as IGST.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Entering a final price in Add GST when it already includes GST.
- Adding CGST and SGST to IGST for the same calculation.
- Assuming a preset identifies the rate for a product or service.
- Treating this calculation as a filed return, tax advice, e-invoice or tax invoice.
